Current Projects Vincent Herring Earth Jazz Agents This is a band I have had for a few years. Even though my name is out front the band is a cooperative. Jouris Dudli (drums), Anthony Wonsey (piano) and Richie Goods (bass). We have so much fun on and off the bandstand. A real band with great musicians and great music. Check us out when we are in your area.
The Cannonball Legacy Band w Louis Hayes The name says it all. I love Cannonball and I love Louis Hayes. I worked and recorded with Nat Adderley for 9 years pleasurable years. After Nat died I never though I would be playing his music again on a regular basis. Louis called me to play a tribute concert a few years ago and the concert was magical, surprisingly fresh. The music was so magical that we decide to perform with this band as much as we can. We have a musical and spiritual hook up that is special. Jeremy Pelt (trumpet), Rick Germanson (piano) and Gerald Cannon (bass).
Paulette McWilliams Band Paulette McWilliams is from Chicago. She was the original singer in the group Ask Rufus and it was her group for a few years before Chaka. She went on to sing lead for Quincy Jones (he introduced her on Mellow Madness) and to sing and record with everyone in the business from duets with Marvin Gaye to singing with Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Bette Midler, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, Barry White, Celine Dion, R. Kelly, Pink, Anastacia, Mary J. Blige and the list goes on and on. She has also sung many of the commercials you hear on TV and radio as well as singing and appearing on an Emmy award winning children's show call "Between the Lions". Nat Adderley Jr. introduced me to her. The first time I heard her I was an instant fan. We are trying to get this band off the ground. She is a world-class talent. We have great orginal songs & arrangements. A fun show. Vincent Herring (alto, soprano, & flute) Nat Adderley Jr (piano), arranger, musical director) EJ Strickland (drums) and Richie Goods(bass)
Cedar Walton Quartet (Eastern Rebellion) Cedar Walton is one of my all time favorites! Great songwriter and incredible pianist. I have been playing off and on with Cedar for about 10 years. Lately I have only been playing a few weeks a year with him, most noticeably Christmas week at The Village Vanguard. Catch him with or with out me. A real musical treat. Most of the times when I play with him we have Kenny Washington(drums) and David Williams (bass).
Kenny Barron Sextet / Quintet Kenny has a lot of different projects going on, and this one is fairly new. Kenny Barron (like Cedar Walton) is one of the true jazz greats! Vincent Herring (alto), Terrell Stafford (trumpet), David Sanchez (tenor), Ben Riley (drums) Kiyoshi Kitagawa (bass). The last time we played Ravi Coltrane (tenor) replaced David Sanchez. I am not sure which one will be playing with us this year, but both are great and a lot of fun to hear.
Nancy Wilson In the last five years I have played a few times with her. Once in a while she will decide to perform the music she and Cannonball did together. Nancy is a first class person and performer and an incredible voice! With or with out me go check her out! I have nothing on the schedule with her at the moment. Like I said I don’t know the next time I will perform her. In fact the last time they called me I was unavailable. When we do perform it is delightful. In the past few years we performed in Japan at The Blue Note, Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Yoshi’s in Oakland, The Hollywood Bowl, and The Beacon Theater. Word is she might retire....
